Manuscript letters. Letters mainly concerning payment of bills and travels to South Africa. Particular items:



  • Letter dated 4 April 1855: Galton added a note that he cannot advance Andersson any money because it would inconvenience him. Other letters concern editing Andersson's book.
  • Letter dated 21 September 1857: mentions the discovery of a fresh water lake by Mr Green (Frederick Thomas Green).
  • Letter dated 19 July 1860: Andersson had returned to Cape Town asking what Galton expects from a survey of the Sinai.
  • Letter dated 8 September 1864: Andersson explained that he hasn't been able to reply because he is recovering from a gun shot wound.
  • Letter dated 31 May 1865: discusses behaviour of solitary animals and Galton's paper on the domestication of animals.
  • Letter dated 8 December 1865: mentions writing about the fauna of the birds of South West Africa.
  • Letters dated 15 March 1866 and 17 April 1866: concerning Andersson's map for the Royal Geographical Society.
