In the Appendix, No. II. we have arranged those poisons which are usually taken by accident or design, with their appropriate antidotes and some practical ob- servations. Appendix No. III. contains some concise remarks on the mode of using remedies on the * endermic plan, as well as the quantities employed, and the effects pro- duced by several of the most potent remedial agents. The materials for the work have been collected from various sources, the writings of different authors, pe- riodical journals, manuscripts and the contributions of our friends. It is hoped therefore, that the dif- ficulties which have attended its progress will form some apology for the errors which it may possibly be found to contain. As a reason for not more frequently attaching the names of authors to the prescriptions, it may be observed, that they are a kind of common medical property which every physician feels himself privileged not only to employ, but modify as may best correspond with his own views. It is, therefore, dif- ficult to say to whom many of them belong; they have been touched, and retouched, till they have lost their identity. In conclusion, we beg leave to present our acknow- ledgments to some of our friends for the encouragement they have given to the undertaking.
