Robert Wood, accompanied by the Italian architect Giovanni Battista Borra, visited the relatively unknown sites of Palmyra and Baalbek in 1751. He published the drawings of the buildings in 1753 (The ruins of Palmyra) and 1757 (The ruins of Balbec)
