    kind of sensation, is felt in many places, then surli a condition, kind or con- nexion becomes a symptom of the first consequence, from the frequency of its recurrence. When the symptoms have been classified according to their relative impor- tance, the next thing is, to find a remedy, which exhibits precisely the same symptoms as to nature and rank. In truth, the correspondence ought to be so correct as to force the conviction, that no other remedy can answer equally well. The following work will generally, though not always, assist materially in this affair, which must be used in the following manner; viz.: You will begin with those symptoms, which are the most definite, then turn to the second part, or Repertory and look out those symptoms, and over against them, set down the remedies there indicated; or give a number to each symptom and affix the remedies to the number. But should you not find a symptom in- cluding all the peculiarities of place, kind, condition, and connexion; then look for the remedies connected with each peculiarity, and these which most frequently recur, are to be selected. In this manner, one symptom after another is to be sought for, and the rem- edies indicated, set against them. It will be found, that if the symptoms be accu- rately defined, there will be a fewer number of remedies indicated, and the reverse where the symptoms are vague and indefinite. As the indefinite symptoms will be considered at last, those remedies which include the most important symptoms, are to be taken out, and the others disregarded. The names of diseases are of very minor importance, still they may serve to confirm the choice of a remedy applicable to them. In deciding on the remedy most proper, among the number annexed to each symptom in the Repertory, those which appear indicated by a majority of the symptoms, are the remedies sought for. When the names of one or more remedies have been found, according to the process recommended, the whole articles in the first part must then be compared with the group of symptoms, keeping in view their relative rank. It will then be easy to choose the one remedy most similar to the disease. — It must be borne in mind, that these directions, are intended chiefly for those who are unacquainted with Homceopathia, but may wish to make trial of its effi- cacy; but that these instructions, however strictly followed, unassociated with other qualifications, can never make a Homoeopathic physician. — The true Homoeopathic physician will refer to this manual in cases only which demand a prompt decision, but his general rule is to refer all cases to the materia medica itself; it becomes therefore the more necessary for those who confine
