About this work

Description

Correspondence and papers on possible second generation effects of thalidomide. Found in a folder inscribed "General Historical Archive. Discussion of 'Second Generation' Deformities. R.W.S.". This appears to have been created some time after Smithell's death from his file "THALIDOMIDE - '2nd. generation' incl. article for Drug Safety". An empty folder bearing the latter inscription, in Smithells' hand, was found with the archive.

The material appears to have been organised several times over. At one stage its components received numbered labels running 0426-0461 and 0808-0813. Subsequently it was partially inventorised by the Thalidomide Trust using a different system (SG014-SG049; for a listing, see PP/SML/D/2/11/2).

Intercalated sheets bearing the logo of RWM Data Management Ltd and a September 2006 date indicate that this material was digitised around that time.
