Biographical note

The World Federation of Neurology was formed in Brussels in 1957 as an association of national neurological societies. Currently (2012) WFN represents 114 professional societies in 113 countries in all regions of the world. Each society registers its own individual member neurologists with the WFN. The WFN is a UK registered charity.

The mission of the World Federation of Neurology is to foster quality neurology and brain health worldwide, by promoting global neurological education and training, with the emphasis placed firmly on under-resourced parts of the world.

The WFN operates a number of committees, including the Africa Iniative, Asia Initiative, Latin America Initiative, Applied Research, Education, Congress Supervisory, Public Awareness and Action, Publications, Standards and Evaluations. It also produces a number of journals, notably The Journal of Neurological Sciences and World Neurology. It also organises the World Congress of Neurology and is involved in numerous annual and other international neurological meetings.
