About this work

Description

A 2-part film which looks at the gap between the ideals and reality of care in the community for the mentally ill. The first part demonstrates that the public, health professionals and media groups are unable to agree on what mental illness is, and how to treat it. Doctors, healthworkers and patients discuss the ideals, dangers and failures of community care. Contributors include Prof. Elaine Murphy (Guy's Hospital), Marjorie Wallace (SANE), Liz Sayce (MIND) and Alan Langlands (Chief Executive, NHS). The second part expands the discussion of these questions, with Dr. Harry Jacobs (Society of Clinical Psychiatrists), Kate Harrison M.D., Roland Powell (British Assoication of Social Workers) and others.
