Includes:
5 January 1893. Letter from T [?F] Earl to Robert Sudlow, "replying to your letter asking for particulars of Malt Extract &c process for a doctor in Genoa". A detailed account [4 sheets], ending with the postscript: "The photographs will follow in about 10 days." With a note from Burroughs (dated 8 December 1892) - "give particulars of experiments showing activity of Ess & Ext in digesting starch." Burroughs then refers to notes prepared by Dr Bokenham "a year ago or more for Mr Ball - "these might be very useful if copied...."
9 January, 1893. Letter from Sir Henry Thompson [1820-1904], who has tried "the tablets [Sulphonal] you were good enough to send" and reports favourably. The letter has Burroughs's draft response on the same sheet, including a reference to Henry Stanley's introduction. Burroughs then remarks: "Is the Congo Chest ready to hand to him [-] to be ready if he is suddenly called to Africa."
10 January, 1893. Letter from Mr Fletcher of Fletcher, Fletcher & Stevenson regarding a patented Thermos Urinometer, with Burroughs's draft reply verso.
Newspaper cutting headed "Missionary News" about the founding of a church in the Upper Congo. Annotated by Burroughs (20 January, 1893), who donates £2 and offers a medicine chest.
10 February, 1893. Letter from Frank S[mith?] (National Liberal Club), referring to "the Harcourt letter on Taxation & Ground Values."
Letters of 15 February (Burroughs Wellcome & Co to Burroughs) and 21 March (Cheney & Preyer to Burroughs), both 1893, concerning forthcoming Chicago Exhibition (with "sketch from Messrs Benham & Froud for the proposed railing to go round our exhibits"). Letter of 15 February includes (first paragraph) a note that twenty shares in the Tottenham & Wood Green "Star" have been purchased according to instructions.
25 February, 1893. From Chicago, Burroughs to Mr [Collett] Smith on "the distribution you are making of the single tax papers." Refers to local Dartford distribution.
