    .( % ) male femen made a deep impredion on the minds of Phyfiologifls. They fuppofed them to be the human race in miniature. But the difficulty of accounting for the genera- tion of hybrid animals, together with the difcovery of fimilar animalcules, in mod of the excretions of the human body, funk it into obfcurity. Then the theory of Haller refumedits former attraction, and was for many years taught in mod of the fchools in Europe. To this opinion fucceeded that, which was firft publickly taught, by Dr. Johnfon, in his fyflem of Midwifery, in the year 1769, ....and feveral years afterwards flrenuofly advocated by an anonymous writer in a work entitled, f Speculations on the mode and <• appearances of impregnation in the hu- i: man female. Thefe writers affert that the femen does not pafs through the Fallo- pian tubes in going to the Ovaria; but that it is abforbed from the Vagina; carried into the circulation, and by the exhalant arteries depofited in the Ovaria.
