Biographical note

Anglo-French quack who described himself as the proprietor of a dispensary at High Holborn and honorary oculist to Louis XVIII. Began practicing in Paris about 1814. Sold a remedy for 500 francs which he claimed prepared the patient for the cataract operation. With the July Revolution of 1830 his license to practice in France was finally revoked. Claimed membership in the Legion of Honour but this was false.
