Note: John Sinclair of Thurso was a lawyer and member of parliament. A voluminous writer, he is best known as the compiler of the first Statistical Account of Scotland. His Code of health is one of the most comprehensive works on gerontology ever written. It contains a bibliography of 1800 works on ageing, excerpts from ancient authors, personal narratives, national statistics and illustrations of the longest lived people throughout Europe
