Description

The pictures of animals in the volumes of Historia animalium are arranged in systematic order. The first edition of this part was dedicated to Henry Gray, Duke of Suffolk, who however died before the book reached him. The second edition was dedicated to Queen Elizabeth I of England

Lettering

Animalis quod Sagoin...German. Ein froemd thier kuerzlich.. The title pages of three Icones volumes bear subtitles in Italian, French and German, probably because they were aimed at a larger market and at people who could no longer read Latin. The illustrations carry legends in all four languages
