Previously kept with the Augustus de Morgan letter to Brunel, now part of MS.8478.

Biographical note

This letter is possibly to do with the railway line built rapidly by Brassey to supply British troops in the Crimea during the War; navvies to build this were taken from the Crystal Palace project in South London directed by Paxton (to which Brunel also contributed work).
