About this work

Description

Lady Strachan, born Louisa Dillon, married Sir Richard Strachan in 1812. She became the mistress of Lord Hertford, later settled in Naples, acquired the title Marchesa di Salza and died in 1868. Sarah Elizabeth, Lady Warwick, was the daughter of Lord Mexborough and widow of Lord Monson

Lettering

Love-a-la-mode, or two dear friends One of the ladies says "Little does he imagine that he has a female rival". Behind some bushes, Strachan, in an admiral's uniform, says "What is to be done to put a stop to this disgraceful business?", to which Lord Warwick replies "Take her from Warwick"
