Description

A painted miniature on a palm-leaf manuscript depicting the story of Nalagiri and Buddha. Nalagiri, a ferocious elephant, was sent by Devadatta to kill Buddha while he was gathering his daily alms in Rajagaha, but due to the enormous loving-kindness, one of the four Immeasurables, emanating from Buddha, Nalagiri calms down.
