    An increase of £52 is shown under the heading of patients’ and Approved Societies’ payments, due to the increase in the number of cases treated. Investments show a fall in revenue of £127, but this is mainly due to the conversion of War Loan from 5 per cent, to 3| per cent., together with the fact that the bonus of £50 received on conversion is a non¬ recurrent amount. With regard to the expenditure side, an analysis of some of the chief items gives the following comparisons :— For provisions there was a total increase of £38, which is reduced to a net increase of £15 by reductions of £9 under the heading butcher, and £14 under the heading of greengrocer, the latter due to gifts of vegetables. Drugs and medical supplies cost £83 more, and X-Ray treatment and expenses increased by £46, due in each case to a considerable in¬ crease in the number of cases treated. Items included under the heading of domestic, cost £64 more, accounted for by increases in fuel £3, gas £49, and electric light £12. Renewals and repairs to building and plant show a reduction in expenditure of £14. A saving of £10 is due to the Governors making a new arrangement with regard to rent of additional nursing staff quarters. • The New Hospital Building Fund account is given in detail in the annual report, and I am pleased to report that your previous treasurer’s estimate of an income of approximately £1,000 has been realised, chiefly due to the sum of £412 2s. 7d. received from the Brotherhood of Cheerful Sparrows. Starting the year with a deficit of £116, we close with a slightly larger deficit of £146, due to the increased work done by the Hospital.
