About this work

Description

The programme is intended as a general introduction to epilepsy; it pivots around a central story which is a dramatic reconstruction of a young girl, Kimberley (played by Kimberley Walsh) and her mother (played by Barbara Marten) facing the girl's diagnosis of epilepsy. There is also an animated model of a brain which shows the electrical pathways in a normally active brain and a brain undergoing a seizure. A further sequence shows the various types of epilepsy and the seizures they provoke including examples of absence seizures, tonic clonic seizures and complex partial seizures. The mother and daughter discuss treatments with their doctor and the usefulness of rectal diazapan is stressed by the doctor and compounded by members of the public who have used it.
