Description
This print, one of a series of seven, was published as the "Theatrum vitae humanae" and displayed six stages of life against a backdrop of the five classical orders (the sixth being destruction and shown as ruins, representing the death of man with skeletons). A garden labyrinth is filled with young men and women, as minstrels, fencing, or as couples, while angels guide a student up to an open ornamental porch, away from the vices of the perilous world, where hard working figures represent the liberal arts and engaged in virtuous activities
