Description

Wooden statue of St Barbara. Invoked against sudden death and by preganant women that their children may have curly hair. Patron saint of architects and artillerymen. The item was purchased at auction by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum in 1930 and accessioned in 1938 (accession number R470/1938). It is not held by Wellcome Collection.

Wooden statue of St Apollonia, patron saint of dentistry and invoked against toothache and troubles connected with teeth. The item was purchased by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum in 1929 and accessioned in 1938 (accession number R169/1938). It is not held by Wellcome Collection.

Wooden statue of St Eloi, also known as Eligius and Eloy (588-660) represented with the leg of a horse. Patron saint of goldsmiths, metalworkers, veterinarians, farriers and others who work with horses. Invoked against ulcers and epidemics. The item was purchased by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum in 1929 and accessioned in 1937 (accession number R4747/1937). It is not held by Wellcome Collection.
