    (2.)—G. M. Humphry, M.D., F.R.S., Professor of Anatomy University of Cambridge, and Surgeon to Addenbrookds Hospital; Member of the General Medical Council, and Member of Council Royal College of Surgeons of England, &=c. Sr>c. Grove Lodge, Cambridge, May 31, 1877. Mr. Chiene is unquestionably one of the most eminent of the younger surgeons of our time. I have had opportunities of becoming well acquainted with him—first, through his Anatomical and Surgical writings; secondly, by personal intercourse; thirdly, by observing him as an examiner when I was visiting the examinations in the University of Edinburgh on behalf of the General Medical Council; and fourthly, by accompanying him through the Wards of the Infirmary when he was taking charge in place of Professor Lister ; and I entertain a very high opinion of him. He is clear and able in his views, careful yet bold in his measures; and I should judge to be an excellent teacher. I do not know any one whom I can more strongly recommend for the Chair of Clinical Surgery in the University of Edinburgh. G. M. HUMPHRY.
