    Waring cites Dr. O'Rorke as an authority for con- sidering it as a very mild and safe purgative, if taken in doses of one to two ounces. Price, 8 annas per lb. ALHAGI MAURORUM.-/W' Manna. Jawasi, Siioo-thur-khaur. The shrub Alhagi Maurormn, of the natural order Leguminosac, is a native of the desert of Kgvpt. Syria, Mesopotamia, Persia, and India. There exudes from the leaves and branches of this shrub a sweet sacc harine substance, called the turunjebun, which many pharmaceutical writers identify with the Hebrew manna. The Indian plant, however, does not yield any secretion like the natives of the other countries mentioned. Medicinal properties.—Aperient. Resembles the ash-manna in all respects. Price, 4 rupees per lb. ALOE INDICA. GlIRITO-KOOMAREE. The plant Aloe Indica, of the natural order Lil- liaceae, and several other species of the same genus (aloes) have been described as possessing in com- mon properties belonging to that plant. The bitter inspissated juice constitutes the medicinal aloes, Mussubber of the Bazar. Medicinal properties.-—-Purgative. The aloes pro- duced in this country are an adequate substitute for pharmacopoeia! aloes. The viscid mucilage obtained from fresh leaves is used by the natives as an excellent demulcent, especially in gonorrhoea.
