    no steps were taken to captivate the spring, and other matters of importance replaced the further consideration of the subject. Some suggestions having been made that a short descrip- tion of the excursions in the vicinity of the Maloja would be welcomed by many visitors to the Kursaal, I have subjoined a brief sketch of the various walks and drives, Altliough this is a departure from the main theme of the book, it is added for the purpose of affording information to those who desire to make use of it. Further acquaintance with out- lying districts can be gleaned from the J.E.M. Guide to Switzerland, which is a serviceable and easily understood handbook. A. T.W. Haute Engadine, July, 1885.
