About this work

Description

Three letters, as follows:

18 March, 1884. London, Burroughs to Shepperson. Refers in some detail to the Indian market. [5 sheets]

19 December, 1887. Melbourne, Shepperson to Burroughs. Shepperson has heard - "whispered" six weeks previously - that the partnership between Burroughs and Wellcome is to be dissolved. "I am presuming that Mr Wellcome on account of his health is retiring from business and that you will carry on the firm as usual." It is Shepperson's intention to leave Australia for London, in April 1888, and wonders if there might be an opportunity for him there with the company. [4 sheets]

22 April, 1889. Melbourne, Shepperson to Henry Wellcome. Shepperson refers to having received letters from Wellcome, both dated 15 March, and continues to hope that the partners "will not separate". He hopes to be in London at the end of June. Business in Australia "is going on very steadily, and he refers to his letters "on the proposed scheme of transfer of this office to your Wholesale Agents". He recommends waiting a while: "the fruit is not quite ripe enough. I will tell you why when I see you." The letter end by recalling that it was Wellcome that who first engaged him some seven years ago, and the difference a "chance interview" made to his career. [4 sheets]
