Saint Camillus de Lellis was canonised by Benedict XIV in 1746, declared with St. John of God the patron saints of the sick and hospitals, this patronage was extended to nurses and nursing in all Catholic aspects in 1930 by Puis XI

Camillus was the founder of the Order of Camillians or the Order of Clerics Regular, servants of the sick in Rome, 1582
