Description

Photograph of a chart of the South Polar Sea with the attached caption "Chart of the South Polar Sea showing tracks and discoveries of "Erebus" and "Terror" under Captain J.C. [James Clark] Ross R.N [Royal Navy] 1840-42". "Erebus" and "Terror" were the two ships under the command of Captain Ross (1800-1862) during the Antarctic expedition searching for the south magnetic pole. The item was part of a polar exhibition held in the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum's central hall in July 1930 but is not held by Wellcome Collection.
