    -2- MEDICAL OFFICERS. During the year three doctors resigned including the Medical Officer of Health. Two doctors arrived, including Dr. Standing promoted from Basutoland to the vacant post of Senior Medical Officer. The establishment was increased under a C.D. & W. Scheme by a Medical Officer for Trypanosomiasis control and by an extra Medical Officer of Health. Neither of these posts could be filled. This made a shortage of five Medical Officers in eighteen posts. NURSING STAFF. Matron Murch proceeded on leave pending retirement after over twenty years service. NURSING SISTERS. Extreme difficulty was experienced in recruiting Sisters for permanent posts with a result that the administration of the hospitals suffered. There would seem to be a dearth of Sisters willing to take on administrative duties. An African Staff Nurse was promoted to the rank of Sister. At the end of the year there were eight vacancies on establishment which were filled however by locum tenens. SENIOR STAFF NURSES. These posts are reserved for Nurses with a local qualification only, and were filled. STAFF NURSES. No difficulty was experienced in filling establishments. All other posts were filled easily with the exception of Pupil Nurses. The difficulty was to find applicants with the requisite qualifications in general education.
