    not complying with the provisions of the Act, permits were granted to 86 retailers, improvements respecting drainage, water supply, lighting and ventilation, were effected in 28 premises before such permits were issued, 2 milk retailers failed to apply for permits and discontinued the sale of milk immediately the act came into force. The number of farms supplying milk to retailers is approximately 480, of the 89 farms inspected only 16 were found to be in a satisfactory condition, the majority of the cowsheds were found to be in an insanitary condition ill lighted and ventilated and badly drained, many of the milk cans were found to be very dirty. A systematic inspection of all Dairy Farms is impor¬ tant and equally necessary with inspections of Dairies and Milkshops. Water Supply. 56 samples of water have been taken and submitted for analysis, chiefly in connection with cases of Infectious Disease, 2 wells were closed and water works service has been provided to 4 dwelling houses. In the case of wells in the country parishes when the water is found to be impure the usual procedure is to order the well to be thoroughly cleansed and a second analysis made. One well water contained an injurious quantity of lead in solution, in this case the lead pump and fittings were removed and replaced by an iron pump. Meat and Food Inspection. The Abattoir and Markets not being under my supervision, visits are confined to butchers shops and other premises where food is exposed for sale. 70 such visits have been recorded.
