About this work

Description

In 1848 American teenagers Kate and Maggie Fox claimed they were receiving messages from the dead. This marked the birth of spiritualism. This documentary traces the 150 year history of the spiritualist movement and attempts to make links between the ways in which increasingly modern forms of telecommunication are reflected in the methods of communication with the dead employed by spiritualists. The programme includes much historical information and accounts of the most important pioneering spiritualists often illustrated with archive footage of contemporary events and important figures such as Oliver Lodge and Arthur Conan Doyle.
