About this work

Description

This chest x-ray shows homogenous shadowing involving the entire left upper lobe in association with an air bronchogram - the appearance of an air-filled bronchus surrounded by opacified lung. This is typical lobar consolidation due to Streptococcus pneumoniae infection in an HIV-positive individual. Tuberculosis may present with upper lobe consolidation and the radiographic features are no different from a bacterial lobar pneumonia.
