About this work

Description

Postcard showing a photograph of Lucio Godina (March 8, 1908 - November 24, 1936) and Simplicio Godina (March 8, 1908 - December 8, 1936), conjoined twins, apparently connected at the hip and born in the Philippine Islands. They are wearing short trousers, jackets, eton collars and cravats. When Lucio died in 1936, Simplicio was surgically removed from his brother, but died two weeks later. This postcard would probably have been sold as a souvenir at places where they were exhibited as part of a freak show.
