Description
King Vimaladharmasuriya I of Kandy had been discussing with Sebald de Weert a joint campaign between Kandy and the Dutch against the Portuguese. However the king suspected that de Weert was secretly plotting with the Portuguese against him. When de Weerdt, drunk, added insult to injury by mocking the queen, the king gave an order which resulted in the killing of De Weert
