About this work

Description

This print may have reaveled a message to contemorary readers regarding folly, which was greatly debated at the time, by Erasmus for example. Like the ship of fools, one play on this theme was that when a lady shook a tree, fools fell out and perhaps is elaborated upon here. The double pointed "jester" hat is visible on the little figures
