Description

Ventral view of seven day 7 mouse embryos showing nodal gene expression. These embryos carry the lacZ reporter gene under the control of the signals that normally control the nodal gene. This can be detected with the blue stain and is seen in the area where the node will form. This gene has been implicated in the correct initiation of gastrulation and formation of the primitive streak.
