Description

Reproduction of an engraving, depicting Heuresis, the personification of invention or discovery, presenting the physician Dioscorides Pedanios with a mandrake root. The engraving was made after an illustration in De Materia Medica by Dioscorides, a 6th century Greek manuscript also known as the Juliana Anicia Codex, held by the Austrian National Library, Vienna. Another photograph of this image was accessioned by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum on 17th September 1935 (PHO 4694). Related images: M0007069, M0007071
