About this work

Description

Full length, black and white photograph of a patient, taken from the back, showing the attitude produced by coxa vara on the left side. There is shortening of the left leg, with eversion of the left foot. The subject was a youth of 17 years, of very poor mental capacity. He stated that he had begun to limp a month before the date of his admission and had observed at the same time an unusual prominence of his left hip bone. There was no trace of past rickets. In addition to the attitude seen in the photographs, the patient showed a slight degree of lateral curvature in the dorsal and lumbar regions. All movements of the left hip-joint were restricted, abduction in particular.
