About this work

Description

Votive offerings were given to the gods either in the hope of a cure or as thanks for one and were made in the shape of the afflicted body part. This example shows a left arm made from bronze. It is believed to be Roman. It is unclear what the devotee may have been experiencing. The use of bronze may indicate a wealthy owner as most votives were made from terracotta. maker: Unknown maker Place made: Roman Republic and Empire
