Description

Lavater writes of this portrait, "the eyes of Cattenburg diffuse their rays, those of Uitbogart [pictured on the same page of the book, see frame no. 9485L] collect them." They also harbour a "slight infusion of pretension", and "make advances" rather than remaining self-concerned
