    PREFACE. This notice of the Cold Water Cure originally formed the Appendix to the Baths of Ger- many ; that of Homoeopathy having been ap- pended to my Observations on Continental Medical Institutions and Practice, published several years ago. These were, I believe, the first accounts of the subjects given in this coun- try by one of the profession, and from the large share of attention vfhich they subsequently at- tracted, I considered that it would be doing a service to republish my remarks in a separate form—without making them so diflfuse as to hrm a. book, but with such alterations as a more Extended knowledge had shown to be requisite, for the advantage of those interested in having an opinion as to the degree of estimation to which these methods of treating disease are en- titled, free from the one-sided views which their
