About this work

Description

Margaret Jernegan writes to her cousin Richard Bellings-Arundell concerning the fact that her father in law, Sir Francis Jernegan, has failed to provide her and her husband with an income of five hundred pounds a year, which they had been expecting to receive. Sir Francis is claiming never to have agreed to this, and Margaret is seeking the advice of her cousin.

Her husband, John Jernegan, is in poor health. They hope to travel to Bath to take the waters, but an outbreak of smallpox there makes them reticent.
