    James Johnstone jun. recommended mu- riatic acid gas, as the surest means of preventing the spread of contagion, that it was not till the year 1/95, that Dr. Car- michael Smyth used nitric acid gas for this purpose, nor until 1802 that he received the remuneration of the House of Commons.
