Description

Lavish, promotional book with gilt type pressed into dark green cloth bound covers advertising the new branch of Boots (cash chemists, stationers, booksellers) which was built in 1897-8 at the corner of Silver Street and Harpur Street in Bedford. A full page illustration of the shop is shown on the final page. The previous page contains text advertising the purity and freshness of their drugs and their relative cheapness compared to those of other chemists. The book consists of photographs of churches, schools and river views in the town. Branches of Boots are also mentioned at Nottingham, Sheffield, Lincoln, Burton, Cambridge, Grantham, Peterborough, Grimsby and Derby.
