Biographical note

Library label: 'De la Bibliothèque de Gilbert Romme' [1750-1795]. This is the famous member of the Convention, who stabbed himself on May 20, 1795 rather than suffer execution by the guillotine, to which he had been condemned for alleged treason. He was a close friend of the astronomer Lalande, and was largely responsible for the adoption of the Republican Calendar, which Lalande had invented. He is probably the compiler of this catalogue.
