The border is signed "Clerget". Artists called Clerget are listed by Jean Adhémar, Inventaire du fonds français après 1800, tome 5, Paris 1949, pp. 33-42: the only one active as early as 1830 is Mme. Adele Clerget, though she was a lithograph designer. The others are Charles Ernest Clerget ("Dessinateur et graveur d'ornements né à Paris en 1812"), active from 1835; Hubert Clerget ("Dessinateur lithographe, né à Dijon, 1818"), active from 1840; and J. Clerget ("Architecte né à Dijon 1808"), active from 1830; and V. Clerget ("Graveur sur acier"), active from 1860
