Documentary on the history of poliomyelitis in Europe (both East and West) and North America from c. 1920 to the present, made for the inception of the W.H.O's current campaign to eradicate the disease worldwide. Contains a wealth of archive film of polio epidemics and polio vaccine development in North America and Eastern Europe, especially in the 1950s and early '60s, and interviews with survivors of 1940s and '50s epidemics who are still largely confined to their iron lungs.
