About this work

Description

4 page magazine insert from about 1890 advertising the range of Cope's cigarettes ("Hand made. By English girls... not made in continental prisons... in the slums of Cairo or Constantinople") and tobaccos. Their Tobacco Works was at 10 Nelson Street, Liverpool, with a branch factory at 89 Great Eastern Street, London, E.C. The front shows the sun either rising or setting over sea, the tobacco plant in flower and a carousing, fat cavalier drinking ale from a flagon, holding an ornate pipe.
