About this work

Description

"A brochure for the ground breaking childrens medical facility in Helsinki, set up by Baroness Sophie Mannerheim, Finlands answer to Florence Nightingale. The Childrens Castle combined pioneering new technologies with state-of-the-art facilities, providing both childcare and training childrens nurses. Partially funded by foreign aid, the centre attracted visitors from across the world, as evidenced by the annotations in the present copy. Particular strengths of the facility included its care for premature infants, and self-contained wards setting a new benchmark for infection control."--Bookseller's catalogue.
