    Presentment that Thomas Harmer, the younger, of Weston, yeoman, being taxed for the maintenance of the gaol and prisoners at the Castle in Hertford, on the above date, forcibly tore up “ the bill of seasement,” made by the justices of the peace in respect thereof, and furthermore erased his name out of the “ bill ’’ of the collection made in the same parish on behalf of the poor. [Deeds 20-1.] Schedule of wages for artificers, laborers, and servants of husbandry. [Deeds 47.] Presentment that at an alehouse in Chipperfield, in the parish of King’s Langley, kept by Ellis Coggdell, there was “ daunsing^' all the time of evening prayer, and that his house is otherwise disorderly. The inhabitants therefore desire to have it put down.^’ Presentment that the highway between Stapleforde Bridge and “ Doggesheade in the Pott,’^ in the parish of Anstye, is de- cayed. Presentment that Bryant’s Lane in the parishes of Apesden and Bockinge is decayed through neglect of the ditches which ought to be scoured by Mr. Searle and Mr. Hyde. Presentment of William Kent and Lewis Eoberts, both of Aston, labourers, for obstructing an ancient footway at a place called “ the Brade,” in a field called Broke Field in Aston, by digging a ditch there across the same pathway. [Deeds 47.] ■ Presentment that whereas from time immemorial there has been a common highway across the lands of George Neel, in the parish of Harpenden, leading from another high w'ay there, called Green Lane to the wood called Inges Wood, Eedborne Mill, and St. Albans (Divinum Albanum) and other places in the county, a very essential road for the public and for horses, bulls [bobus] cows, sheep, carts, and carriages going to the market towns of the county, as well as to a close of land there called Cuttes Crofte, in tlie occupation of Thomas Buckmaster ; nevertheless George Nele, of Haminges Ende, in the parish of Harpenden, yeoman, had of late, with great pits and hedges, obstructed and shut off the said highway, to the great detriment of the public.
