    substance in pyridine solution, which indicated its formula to be Cj^HjgOg.HgO, cannot as yet be explained. The result obtained by the analysis of the phenylhydrazone of apocynamarin (p. 746) is also in agreement with the double formula, since this compound was found to contain N = 5-6, and requires N = 5*0 per cent. In view of the above facts it is, therefore, possible that apo- cynamarin is the dilactone of Kiliani’s oxydigitogenic acid, CggH^gOg (loc. cit.), or of an isomeride.
