    Health Department, Town Hall, Bridlington. To the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors, Borough of Bridlington, Mr. Mayor, Miss Padgett and Gentlemen, I have the honour to submit the Annual Report on the Health Services of the Borough for the year 1948. On the 5th July, 1948, the Maternity and Child Welfare Services of the Borough passed over to the control of the East Riding County Council as the Local Health Authority under Part III of the National Health Service Act. This change, however, has been little felt in view of the transfer of your officials and the con- tinuance of their work within the Borough. The Infectious Diseases Hospital passed over to the control of the Regional Hospital Board on the same date. Owing to the continuing yearly decrease in the number of infectious cases, this hospital was rapidly becoming a financial burden to the Borough. The daily occupied bed state for the year was only 4,5 for the estab- lishment of 46 beds. No doubt the Regional Hospital Board will be able to use the hospital for other purposes whereby all the beds can be used to the best advantage and the nursing and domestic staff employed at full economic level. I take this opportunity of thanking the Members of the Health and Maternity and Child Welfare Committees for their valuable assistance and support and the staffs of the Health and other Departments for their co-operation and assistance.
