Description
Second in a three-part series looking at pregnancy and childbirth in different religious and cultural traditions. This part features the birth of a Muslim baby and the Islamic traditions it is born into which are described in part by the parents of a girl born six months ago. Amina Lowan [?] a Muslim midwife describes how difficult it can be to abide by some Islamic traditions in the hospital setting. These include the giving of a few drops of honey immediately after birth and placing coal around the eyes and head of the baby.
